LOCAL VOICE OF THE ILLAWARRA

For over 25yrs Vox fm 106.9 Community Radio (call sign: 2VOX), also known as The Voice of the Illawarra, has been broadcasting in the Illawarra region. 

Vox has a loyal listenership across the Illawarra.

Over the years it has become an integral part of the Illawarra community.  The station’s broadcast area reaches from Helensburgh in the north to Gerringong in the south, and at times receives calls from listeners receiving the signal in the Blue Mountains.

Not only does it specialise in playing the glorious hits from the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s, but it covers a wide genre of music including Jazz, Blues and Folk. It also gives the members of the Illawarra community a voice.  Many of the regions local issues are debated and discussed on air.   Vox fm gives local talent the opportunity to be heard and it also caters for many of the various ethnic communities that call the Illawarra home. Vox FM is proud to say it is supported by listeners from many heritages -  Indigenous, Bosnian, Chilean, Croatian, Cyprian, Dutch, Filipino, German, Greek, Irish, Koori, Macedonian, Portuguese, Puka Puka, Scottish, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tongan, Turkish, African and  Polish. Vox fm invites all local not-for-profit community groups to advertise their events for free in our Community Announcements.

The station is run totally by volunteers and the Board of Directors is elected directly from within the membership.  Local residents are encouraged to become members of the station and to play a part in the running of it, whether it is as a trained Presenter or a volunteer who helps keep the station running smoothly.

Vox fm is a not-for-profit charitable institution and relies on government grants, donations, membership and sponsorship to remain on the air. If you would like to make a donation, please email us to find out how.

The home of Vox fm  at Ellen St, which has served the station well for many years, is now looking tired and worn and before long the station will have to move to new premises. The hunt is on now to find such a new home.
